Ananta Padmanabha Swamy Temple, also named Anantagiri Temple in Vikarabad. In this Temple, the presiding deity, Sri Maha Vishnu, is present in the grand form of Sri Ananta Swamy. Moreover, this hill is named Anantagiri.

It is the oldest Hindu Temple in the region and has religious and historical significance with great perfection. According to local legend, the Moosi or Muchukunda River originates a few miles from the Ananta Padmanabha Swamy Temple. 

With the blessings of this particular Temple, the river travelled about 90 kilometres west of Hyderabad, flowing straight east for almost its entire course and flooding Himayatsagar and Osmansagar.

The place was a dense forest filled with many wild animals during those times. People used to climb this hill and try to visit this Temple to seek the grace of God. 

According to local legends and historians, this densely forested area was one of the earliest inhabited areas. This hilly area largely reflects the antiquity of this particular region with ancient caves, small temples and medieval fort structures.
