According to history, the Gubbala Mangamma Temple existed since the Tretayuga, when Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana were present. During the Dwaparayuga, the Pandavas and Kunti Mata stayed here for some time.
Folklore says that this forest area is the house of the Asuras. One day, asuras and Asuras fought using weapons and fell on the cave where the Goddess was residing. The Goddess got angry and killed all the asuras, but she didn’t calm down after the killing, so the Devas of the world prayed for the Goddess to calm herself and bring back peace. Listening to their prayers, the Goddess restored her peace and manifested as Ganga, Nagamma, and Mangamma.
How did Gubbala Mangamma Thalli Temple come into existence?
This temple came into existence 30 years ago when Karatam Krishnamurthy from Buttayagudem went to the forest near the temple one day to collect bamboo. On his way back after collecting the bamboo sticks, the bullock cart fell upside down, and he couldn’t get the sticks back. The disappointed Krishna Murty returned home, where the Goddess came into his dream the night.
By appearing in his dreams, the Goddess told him he didn’t have permission to take the bamboo but had one to get the cart back. Then, she told him to offer her pooja and free food for the devotees near the temple. He followed her instructions, performed abhishekam, and provided food for the devotees. Since then, this temple has become famous among the devotees, as they believe their wishes come true after visiting it.
