Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple Vizag History:

Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple Vizag

According to the local story 1912, Municipal authorities removed the Idol of Goddess Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi Ammavaru from the well. They had installed at the centre of the road, i.e., amidst the Municipal lane. The Municipal authorities, to widen the road, have shifted the Idol from amidst the road to a corner of the street.

During this period, i.e., in 1917, the dangerous contagious disease ‘Plague’ spread over the town, and so many deaths occurred in Visakhapatnam village. The people of Visakhapatnam were afraid of the incident. They thought the devastation was due to shifting the Idol of goddess Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi’ and re-erected Ammavari Idol to its original place, i.e., at the centre of the road as it exists now.

Due to re-erection, Maha Lakshmi cured the ‘Plague’ disease and restored normalcy. With this, the villagers have a staunch belief that it is all due to the miracle of the Goddess. Thus, from then onwards, the Villagers used to worship the Goddess by performing sevas with much devotion.

Further, the people of the vicinity strongly believe that ‘Sri Kanaka Maha Lakshmi Ammavaru’ is the ‘MOTHER OF TRUTH’ and will always bless her devotees by fulfilling their requirements. The lady devotees staunchly believe that the Goddess bless them with “Sumangali”. The devotees of the Goddess bring their babies to the Temple, keep them at Goddess’s feet, and seek blessings.
