Hussain Sagar is a heart-shaped lake in Hyderabad, Telangana, constructed by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah in 1563. Hussain Sagar Lake has spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometres, and the River Musi feeds it.

History of Hussain Sagar Lake:

Hussain Sagar was constructed across the Musi River in 1563 by Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. The Lake is named after Hussain Shah Wali, the Master of Architecture in the Kingdom. Hussain Sagar is an artificial lake that holds water continuously fed by canals from the Musi River. Lake was the primary source of water supply to Hyderabad before Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar were built on river Musi.

Water Sports at Hussain Sagar Lake: 

In addition to being a primary tourist hotspot, Lake is a water sports hub. Different kinds of water sports, such as yachting, boating, and sailing, are regular aspects of the Lake. Sailing and yachting are among the significant active clubs here, and Regattas have been held here since 1971 by the EME Sailing Association and Secunderabad Sailing Club.

1. Sailing: 

Hussain Sagar Lake is Hyderabad’s most popular hub for watersports. Sailing is one of the most active clubs hosted here. Joint Regattas have been held at the Lake since 1971 by the EME Sailing Association and the Secunderabad Sailing Club. The Hyderabad Sailing Week has also been hosted at the Lake since 1984.

2. Yachting: 

Since 2016, the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation has commenced two catamaran yacht rides at Lake. The yacht ride begins from the adjacent Lumbini Park. Procured from the U.S., the catamaran boats can accommodate 12 to 15 persons per trip and the lifts are priced at Rs. 100 per person.

3. Boating: 

Boating facilities at Lake commence from the adjacent Lumbini Park. Visitors can hire boats of multiple sizes and types to suit their convenience. The boat rides are relatively cheap and do not cost more than Rs.200.

Boating: 

Boating at Hussain Sagar starts from Lumbini Park, which is adjacent to the Lake. One can choose several boats to suit their convenience. 

Speed Boats:

Equipped with life jackets and buoys, the thrill of crisscrossing the Lake on a speedboat is a unique experience. The ride becomes enthralling during high tide, and the riders are provided with a boating expert to guide them.

Regular Boats:

Paddle boats and diesel-powered motorboats are preferred by most people to the boat at the Lake, allowing the rider to explore every corner of the Lake at their leisure and enjoy the scenic surroundings. The joy of experiencing a sunset on a boat at the Lake is an unparalleled experience.

Launch: 

Offered by the Department of Tourism, the launch ride is a perfect way to enjoy a picnic or a party on a boat in the Hussain Sagar. Everyone can book the cruise for corporate bookings, weddings and other public events. The 48-seater launch offers dinner and lunch facilities as well.

Jet Skis and the Rajahamsa Boat Ride: 

Jet skis and Rajahmsa boat rides are also available from Lumbini Park. However, these rides do not provide alighting facilities at the Buddha Statue.

Hussain Sagar is the perfect sport to enjoy several watersport opportunities, including parasailing. Participants in the activity had trained before the action began and provided adequate safety equipment. Parasailing costs Rs. 400 per person.
