About Ramappa Temple Warangal
Ramappa temple as Ramalingeswara Swamy temple is located in Palampet village. The presiding deity Lord Shiva worshipped as Ramalingeswara Swamy. Sculpture Ramappa built the temple. This is the only temple in India named the craftsman’s name for the temple. The temple is famous for its excellent architecture and historical richness. This temple built in the year 1213 AD by Kakatiyas.
The temple is built with reddish sandstone. The outside columns around the temple have brackets of black basalt. The carvings inside the temple are of mythical animals, female dancers, and musicians. The bricks used to construct the roof are lightweight and floats on the water.
History of The Temple
The Kakatiya King Ganapathi Deva constructed the temple in the supervision of the Chief Commander Recharla Rudra. There are two Shiva shrines on either side of the temple with Nandi facing Lord Shiva. The temple stands on a 6ft high star-shaped platform. the temple is the best in the middle ages of South India.
Despite many Wars, robbery, and natural disasters, the temple remained undamaged. The temple got damaged to some instinct when there was an earthquake in the 17th Century. The small parts of the temple were ruined and neglected. The Archaeological Survey of India undertaken the temple for mending.
UNESCO World Heritage Site included Ramappa in “The Glorious Kakatiya Temples and Gateways”, 2019. On September 10th, 2010, the proposal submitted to UNESCO. Once Marco Polo visited the Kakatiya Empire and reportedly called Ramappa temple as “the brightest star in the galaxy of temples”.
