Sculpture Ramappa built the Temple, and it is the only Temple in India named the Craftsman name for the Temple. The Temple is famous for its unique architecture and historical richness—it was built in 1213 AD by Kakatiyas.

The Temple was built with reddish sandstone. The outside columns around the Temple have brackets of black basalt.

The carvings inside the Temple are of mythical animals, female dancers, and musicians. The bricks used to construct the roof are lightweight and float on the water.

History of The Temple:

The Kakatiya King Ganapathi Deva constructed the Temple under the supervision of Chief Commander Recharla Rudra. There are two Ramalingeswara shrines on either side of the Temple, with Nandi facing Lord Shiva; the Temple stands on a 6ft high star-shaped platform and is the best in the Middle Ages of South India.

The Temple remained undamaged despite many Wars, robberies, and natural disasters. When an earthquake occurred in the 17th Century, some instincts damaged the Temple.

The small parts of the Temple were ruined and neglected—the Archaeological  Survey of India undertook the Temple for mending.

UNESCO World Heritage Site included Ramappa in “The Glorious Kakatiya Temples and Gateways”, 2019. On September 10th, 2010, the archaeology department submitted the proposal to UNESCO.

Once, Marco Polo visited the Kakatiya Empire and reportedly called Ramappa temple “the brightest star in the galaxy of temples”.
