The Dirgheswari Temple is one of the supreme Devi Tirtha dedicated to Goddess Durga. The Temple has located on the northern banks of the mighty River Brahmaputra at Dirgheswari hill Guwahati, Assam, India. And is an important Goddess temple in Guwahati. Temple Timings are 5 am to 7 pm.

Legend of Dirgheswari Temple:

The mythological background behind Temple is that when Lord Shiva performed ‘Tandav’ and carried his wife’s dead body, Sati Parvatii, over the Dirgheswari hill, one of her limbs fell into the hill. Hence, the Dirgheswari temple has built on that exact spot.

History of Dirgheswari Temple:

The present Temple at Dirgheswari was constructed by Ahom king Swargadeo Siva Singha reign 1714 CE-1744 CE, under the supervision of Tarun Duwarah Barphukan, the Ahom viceroy of Guwahati and Lower Assam. The Temple has constructed using bricks at the top of the hill, filled with solid rocks.
