Umananda Temple is a Shiva temple placed on Umananda (Peacock Island) Island in the middle of the river Brahmaputra just opposite the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup or the Kachari Ghat in Guwahati, Assam state. It is known as the smallest inhabited riverine island in the world. Temple Timings are Monday to Sunday: 9:30 am–5:30 pm.
On Bhasmachala Hill Temple has been built. Country boats on the bank of Brahmaputra take the visitors to the island. The name ‘Umananda’ comes from two Hindi words, ‘Uma,’ another name for Lord Shiva’s wife, and ‘Ananda,’ which means happiness.

The brick temple has built-in 1694 CE by the Bar Phukan Garhganya Handique by order of King Gadadhar Singha (1681–1696), one of the eldest and strongest rulers of the Ahom dynasty. The Mughal Army violated the Temple. The original Temple was, however, very damaged by a devastating earthquake in 1897. Later, it has rebuilt by a rich local merchant who chose to inscribe the interior part of a Siva temple with Vaishnavite slogans.
