History of Vaitheeswaran Koil Temple:

Vaidhyanathan Swamy is the deity worshipping here, and his companion, Thayyalanayaki Ambal, stands here with medicinal oil that heals diseases.

Angarakan is worshipped in two forms: the main deity is permanently kept inside the Temple, and the other deity is taken out during festival times for procession. During the procession, the goat is placed upon the goddess.

Legends of Vaitheeswaran Koil Temple:

According to the legend, once Lord Shiva was in deep meditation, sweat drops fell on the earth from Shiva’s forehead.

A male baby, Angaraka, was born out of those sweat drops of Shiva. Lord Shiva healed Angaraka’s skin disease. Later, he became one of the members of Navagraha.

Any devotees visiting the Temple must dip in ‘Siddsmrita’ before entering the Temple. Siddsmrita is a temple tank. It is believed that it has healing properties that heal skin diseases.
It was said that Saptarshi (seven sages) worshipped Lord Shiva in this place.

People believe that during Ramayana, Lord Rama and his brother Lakshman performed the final rituals for Jatayu at this place. Ravana killed Jatayu, the vulture king while rescuing Sita from abduction. From that, Jatayu Kundam formed here.

Tevaram, hymns of seventh-century Saiva nayanars, cherish the Temple. Sixty-three Shaivitie Saints sang them in praise of Lord Shiva.

Thiruchandu Urundal is the ashes collected here from Homa Gundam that have healing properties. Chandan (sandalwood powder) mixed with saffron is another medicine available here.

As Chevvai means red, devotees must offer their dal and red arali flowers during pooja. Also, pepper and salt with jaggery are provided in the Siddhamritam to relieve diseases.

Devotees worship Angaraka on Tuesdays by fasting for 21 Tuesdays. Then, he will be relieved from Mangal’s harmful influence.
