Thiruneermalai Temple is a famous temple of Vishnu situated in the suburb of Chennai city. Temple is a cluster of 4 temples extending between a hill’s base and its top. The Thiruneermalai Lord had glorified in the devotional compositions of the Azhwar saints. Hence, this remains a Divya Desam, a chosen abode of Vishnu with immense religious importance. The Staladhipathi, the moderate deity of this place, is God Neervanna Perumal, and he can worship him downhill along with his partner Animamalar Mangai Thayar. The temple inscriptions show that it has received many contributions from the Chola and Pandya rulers. Overall, the temple structures at the top and bottom of the hill have spread across 15 acres. Lord Neervanna Perumal can worship as Nindran in the standing posture at the foothills. His consort Animamalar Mangai Thayar, Kalyana Ramar, and Andal had also housed in separate shrines.

The Hanuman shrine is also there, adjacent to the steps up the hilltop. Ranganatha, as Kidanthan, the reclining Lord, is the principal deity uphill, who can be worshipped in the sanctum under the Ranga Vimana. Ranganayaki Thayar, his consort, is also housed separately. The temple tank Kshera Pushkarani is said to feed from the waters of the Lord’s divine abode Vaikunta. Whereas another tank Karunya Pushkarini is said to have filled with the tears that Narasimha shed on seeing the intense devotion of Prahlada.
