In the mid-16th Century, the temple was built during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire. China Timmanayudu, a subordinate of Krishnaraya of the Tuluva dynasty, built this temple. On the day people heard a loud noise from the tamarind tree, timmanayadu also dreamt.

In that dream, he saw Lord Vishnu tell him to a built temple for his idol in the hole of the tamarind tree of loud noise. Therefore, he made the temple in the Vijayanagara style. The temple’s initial structure may belong to the Saluva dynasty, but the entrance towers belong to the Tuluva dynasty.

The main deity in the Sanctum of Sanctorium is 10 feet high. On Mukkoti Ekadasi day, the sun’s rays continuously touch Venkatarama Swamy’s feet for three days ( Ekadasi, Dwadasi, Trayodasi), which happens once a year. This sun’s rays pass through the holes of the monolithic chariot, about 70 mt away from the deity.

One should take advantage of the carvings of Kaliya Mardhana Krishna roopam from the Mahabharath and sequences from the Ramayana on the corridor’s walls (mandap). There is an octagonal shaped flower on the roof of the corridor.
