The Jyotirlinga is in the underground sanctum sanctorum. The temple’s main attraction is the 25-meter-high idol of Lord Shiva in a large garden with a pond around the idol.
What is the Significance of Nageshwar Temple?
It has Lingam Oval Rudraksha with three faces. Rudraksha is called the tears of Lord Shiva. The uniqueness of Nageshwar Temple is that this powerful Jyotirlinga protects the devotees from all kinds of poisons.
Devotees also believe that a person who prays to God will be free from poison, i.e. negativity. The lingam at Nageshwar is unique because it contains a stone known as the Dwarka stone.
Nageshwar Mahadev Shivalingam is on the south, while Gomugam is on the east. There is a story behind this position. Once upon a time, there was a devotee named Namdev.
He is a saint who dedicates songs to Lord Shiva. One day, while chanting bhajans in front of the Lord, other devotees asked him to stand aside and not hide from the Lord.
To this, Namdev asked them to point in a direction without God so he could stand there. The enraged devotees brought him and left him to the south. To their surprise, the lingam was now facing east while Gomugam was facing south.
History of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple:
Nageshwar Temple is located between the city of Dwarka and Bate Dwarka Island. According to the history of Nageshwara Temple, there are two stories behind this Jyotirlinga. Two legends relate to the existence of these many temples.
The first story in the Shiva Purana is about a hundred years old about a demon couple named Daruka and Daruki.
The city, now known as Dwarka, was formerly named after the Asura couple and was known as “Darukavana”. Daruki’s wife, Daruki, is a devotee of Goddess Parvati.
But Daruka is a cruel monster; he is pleasured by harassing the people around him. One day, he imprisoned a devotee of Lord Shiva named Supriya, along with many others.
Daruka abused the blessings he received and continued to persecute the local people somehow.
While in captivity, Supriya advised the people to chant the mantra “Om Namaha Shivaye” loudly.
Supriya told the villagers that this mantra was powerful enough to save them. When Daruka finds out about this, he gets angry and goes to kill her. Lord Shiva appeared on earth in the form of Linga during this time.
Lord Shiva could not kill the demon due to the boon given by his wife, Parvati. Therefore, he assured Supriya and all the others that he would protect them in the form of Jyotirlinga.

Mahashivaratri:
This festival is celebrated in late February or early March. It is believed that on this day, Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati. This day is famous for its rigorous worship, bhajans and anointings.
Devotees decorate the lingam with flowers and perform anointing with milk. Thousands of people visit the mandirs during this glorious festival.
Shravan month:
Shravan falls in the Hindu calendar’s fifth month, beginning in late July and ending in the third week of August. The chanting of the Rudra mantra resonates in the temple during the month of Shravan.

Online booking is not available for Abhishek. It is upon purchase of an arrival ticket at the counter. After paying the money at the counter, a Pandit will accompany the devotees to perform the anointing. Worship equipment to be purchased by the devotee. At this time, the devotee had been allowed to touch the Shivalinga.
Entry to the temple is free. There is no dress code for the show. If you intend to anoint, the gents should change pants and wear a dhoti. Dhoti is available for free in the changing room.
