History of the Thirukadaiyur Temple:
After the Samudra Manthan, the Devatas were victorious over the Asuras. The Devatas got a pot of Amrit. They decided to consume the Amrit and gathered at one place.
As decided, they shared the pot of Amrit but forgot to invoke Lord Ganesh. As it was a tradition, Lord Ganesh was offended. So, he stole the pot and hid it in Thirukadaiyur.
Before that, Lord Ganesh created a Shivling and poured some Amrit on that. Hence Lord Shiva is known as Amrithakadeshwar. So-called Lord who leads to immortality.
Thirukadaiyur has become a pilgrimage since that time. So, the people started worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. This temple was renovated during the Chola empire. The Rajaraja Chola I expanded the temple.
