After the Samudra Manthan, the Devatas were victorious over the Asuras. The Devatas got a pot of Amrit. They decided to consume the Amrit and gathered in one place.

As decided, they shared the pot of Amrit but forgot to invoke Lord Ganesh. As it was a tradition, Lord Ganesh was offended. So, he stole the pot and hid it in Thirukadaiyur.
