The Swamimalai temple is located in the Thanjavur district. Generally, all the Murugan temples will be located atop a hill. There are 60 steps to reach the Temple. The temple morning timings are 06:00 am to 01:00 pm, and the evening timings are 04:00 pm to 09:05 pm.

History of Swamimalai Temple:

According to history, the creator of the universe, Brahma, passed by the side of Lord Murugan when they met on occasion. But the Lord Brahma did not give respect to the young Lord Murugan.

So, Lord Murugan intercepted Brahma and asked him the meaning of the Pranava mantra “Ohm.” Lord Brahma could not answer the question.

Swamimalai Temple timings

So, Lord Murugan put Brahma in jail as he could not answer the question. Lord Murugan started acting as Brahma. Hence, Vishnu appealed to Lord Shiva to release Brahma. So, Lord Murugan released Brahma.

After that, Lord Shiva asked the son to answer that question. Lord Murugan tells the answer to his father in the ear. This incident occurred in this place.

Swamimalai Temple follows the traditional Dravidian architectural style. It features towering gopurams, a pyramidal vimana, intricately carved mandapams, and a sacred inner sanctum.
