According to the history books, once, mother Parvathi playfully closed the eyes of Lord Shiva. So, the entire universe stood sill. Hence, Lord Shiva cursed her to be born on earth.
She was advised to do penance at Mangadu, and the Lord promised to marry her at the appropriate time. So, the mother undertook the penance by standing against fire.
She heard a blessing voice to move to Kanchipuram to proceed with the penance. As the mother started her penance at Mangadu, people called Adhi Kamakshi Sthala.
While leaving for Kancheepuram, the mother did not douse the Panchgani fire. So, people believe this is the reason for the hotness of Mangadu and surroundings.
