Banashankari Temple Bangalore dates back to the year 1915. Somanna Shetty, a devotee of Banashankari Amma, founded it. He brought a deity of Amma from Badami in the Bijapur district and installed it inside the temple. The Temple Timings are 6:00 am – 1:30 pm & 4 pm – 9 pm.
A popular belief among the devotees is that worshipping goddess Banashankari Amma in Rahukala will remove all the hardships and poverty. The deity was worshipped by lighting multiple oil lamps in half-cut lemon peels with the pulp removed. The Temple of Banashankari Amma was founded in the 7th century by the Chalukyas. The divinity Banashankari was the god of their house. According to an inscription, this image of the Banashankari Amma has mounted by Jagadekamalla I in 630 AD. Later the Marathas rebuilt this temple in the 18th century. Its new form now represents more than the original Chalukya style, the Vijayanagara style of architecture.
