Udupi Temple is a pilgrimage site in South India. Thousands of devotees throng this temple to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. It said that the Krishna idol here is the most beautiful. Krishna is depicted here as a Balakrishna (small boy). The image is seen only through a 9-holed window called the Navagraha Kitiki. Udupi Temple Timings are Morning Hours: 5 am to 11 pm, Evening Hours: 5 pm to 9 pm.

We can not see the image directly. Udupi is called ‘Mathura (Lord Sri Krishna birthplace in Uttar Pradesh) of South India. Udupi Sri Krishna temple and Matha (Monastery) has set up by Sri Madhwacharya (famous Vaishnava Saint) during the 13th century.

The daily sevas and administration of the Krishna Mathas manage by the Ashta Mathas (eight monasteries). Each Ashta Mathas performs temple management activities for two years in a cyclical order. The Krishna Matha is known worldwide for its religious customs, traditions, and tenets of the Dvaita or Tatvavada philosophy. It is also the centre of Daasa Saahitya.

Golden Chariot
Kanakana Kindi:

A small window through which Shri Krishna says to have granted his devotee, saint Kanakadasa, darshan. Kanakadasa is a low caste and was denied entry to the temple, according to legend. He went behind the temple and prayed fearless to Krishna through a small crack in the wall. The statue of Lord Krishna pleased, turned around, and gave him darshan. The Kanakadasa Mantapa, which is right next door, houses a statue of the saint.

Udupi Temple History

It has said that Lord Krishna’s last resting place is in Udupi. Madhvacharya built Sri Krishna Temple and matha in the thirteenth century. According to legend, Kanakadasa, a devotee of Lord Krishna, was once turned away from the temple.
