Thiruporur temple is an old temple. In the early nineteenth century, the Pallava dynasty established this temple. The Swayambu Murthi, coated by an anthill, is Lord Muruga’s popular deity or embodiment.

According to legend, the Chidambara Swamigal discovered the temple on the same anthill as the Chidambara Swamigal.

During the Pallava period, the monarchs reestablished the existing idol. The temple exists today because of Chidambara Swamigal and his successors.
