Venkatagiri Poleramma Temple is a re-established 200 years-old temple in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, sacred to the goddess Poleramma. Poleramma is a pre-Vedic deity predominantly worshipped in Andhra Pradesh and a local form of Sakti. The temple morning timings are 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and evening timings are 06:00 pm to 08:00 pm.
It is famous for its jatara. It’s believed that this festival had a long time ago, through the time of Venkatagiri rajas in the mid-18th century. Local people thought the Idol herself came and used to talk with the venkatagiri rajas during the festival. It is usually held every year on the 3rd Wednesday and Thursday after Vinayaka Chaturthi.

Venkatagiri Poleramma Jathara was in place from 1714 AD. In 1917 AD, Cholera was spreading heavily in this region. Then Venkatagiri Raja performed Seethala Yagam and installed Astadhigbhandhan Yantras. In 1919 AD, Rajas served Poleramma Jatara in a grand. From then on, Jathara was celebrated regularly by the devotees.
On Ghatotsavam day, the Kummari community at Venkatagiri Kummari Street prepares the Idol of Poleramma with Clay. Eyes will not place to the deity. This Idol will take out in a procession from Puttinill (Kummari Street) to Mettinillu (In-law’s Home at Jeenigala Vari Street), Chakali House.
Eyes will place after reaching the in-laws’ house. The deity will be kept outside on the road for two days. During this time, devotees offer special poojas to God. After two days, the Creator will go around the streets of the Vekatagiri, followed by Nimarjan. Nimarjanam will perform at a specially reserved place at the Kaivalya river bed.
It has strictly followed that devotees inside town at the time of Chatimpu are supposed to leave town when Jathara ends. From 1992 onward, the Jathara event had performed by the AP Endowments department.
