History of Tiruchendur Temple:

Once, there lived an Asura named Soorapadman. He used to disturb all the Deva devas with his deeds. So, Devas made a complaint to Lord Shiva to end Soorapadman.

Lord Shiva opened his third eye, and Lord Murugan was born from the sparks of light. Lord Shiva orders Murugan to remove Soorapadman.

At the same time, Devas was praying to Lord Murugan/Subramaniya Swamy. He appeared in front of Coach Bhagavan and learned about Soorapadman. Lord Murugan sent a messenger to convince the Soorapadman, but he did not listen.

So, Lord Murugan, with his army, defeats the Sooorapadman. According to Coach Bhagavan’s wish, he stays here.
