Thomala Seva
Contents
The word Thomala is from the Tamil Thoditta Malai, which means worn garlands. The other meaning is a garland of flowers.
It is a Seva to decorate Venkateswara Swami with all kinds of flowers. The Chief Minister made floral handicrafts for Srinivasa Swami. The Seva begins after the Nijaroopa or Vishwaroopa darshanam.
The blooming laurels should be cut into small pieces, each part of a certain size, and decorated in special zones to spectacularly enhance God’s divine glory. The Seva is only available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The Seva lasts about 30 minutes. Its earned Seva is only available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in solitude (travellers are not allowed) during the rest of the week.
For most Sevas, travellers had to follow traditional dress rules: dhoti around the waist, uttariya (upper garment) on the shoulder for men and sari salwar for women.
