The Thirunageswaram temple has another name, Rahu Sthalam. This Rahu Sthalam is in the Thirunageswaram village of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu. The main deity in this temple is Lord Shiva. The temple morning timings are 06:00 am to 01:00 pm, and the evening timings are 04:00 pm to 09:05 pm.

The devotees worship Lord Shiva as Nageswarar or Naganatha Swamy in this temple. They also worship Goddess Parvathi Devi, who is also known as Girigujambikai. The temple is present on the outskirts of Kumbakonam. It is one of the Navagraha Sthalas, specifically Rahu.

History of Thirunageswaram Temple:

According to references, the serpent Aadi Seshan, Dakshan and Karkotagan worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple. Saint Sushila worshipped Nala in this temple.

Once, Rahu made a mistake, and the saint Sushila cursed Rahu. So, Rahu visited the Thirunageswaram temple during the night’s first quarter.

Then, he visited Sanbakaranyam in the second quarter, Thirupamburan in the third quarter, Nagaikaraonam in the fourth quarter and Usha time in the Fifth quarter.

In the last quarter, Rahu prayed Naganathaswamy in the Thiunageswaram Holy Senbaka forest and was relieved from his curse. Hence, people call this temple Rahu Sthalam.

Significance of Rahu Sthalam:

The main temple of importance is the Rahu Idol. When we pour milk on the Rahu Idol during Abhishekam, the milk turns blue while passing through the idol and then turns white after leaving the idol.

The priest says that the colour will change if you have any Dosham. People believe performing Abhishekam with milk during the Rahu Kalam will clear all your obstacles, such as marriage, getting children, and other problems.

So, they perform many poojas during these times. As a result, you can see more rush in this temple during Rahu kalam.
