History of Siruvapuri Murugan Temple:

According to the legend, Lord Rama’s sons have lived there. Lava and Kusa waged war against him when Lord Rama passed through this place.

Then, they do not know that Lord Rama is their father, so they fight with him in this place. Hence, this place is called Siruvar Por Puri. This is because Siruvar refers to children, and Por refers to the Waging War in Tamil.

According to another story, once, a lady was living there. She is a devotee of Lord Murugan and always chants his name and prays to him. But her husband does not like this and always warns her to stop worshipping Lord Murugan.

She never listened to him. So, her husband cuts her arms out of anger. She asks Lord Murugan for help. Lord was pleased with her devotion and made her arms regular without wounds.

This place is originally Siruvar Ambu Edu, which means children who took their arrows to fight, but people call this place Chinnambedu.

Siruvapuri Murugan temple is unique for the Maragatha Mayil, the carrier of Lord Muruga, which is made of greenstone.

The devotees can see the Arunagirinathar near the sanctum facing Lord Murugan. Arunagirinathar has visited this temple and sung many devotional songs. He is the devotee of Lord Murugan.
