History of Simhachalam Temple:
According to history, the Hiranyakashyap goes to the Himalayas and offers his prayers to Lord Brahma day and night. Lord Brahma gets impressed and offers him a boon. He asks for eternal power.
After getting the power, Hiranyakashyap treats himself as a god. He starts making people chant his name and worship him forcefully. But Prahalad, his son, is a devotee of Lord Vishnu and never listens to the Hiranyakashyap words.
The Hiranyakashyap gets angry with his son and orders the soldiers to kill him. Lord Vishnu saves Prahalad from death. So, Prahalad builds a temple for Lord Vishnu. The temple is on the top of Simhadri hill. Hence, people call this temple Simhachalam Temple.
