Parnasala Temple | History, Timings & Best Time to Visit

Parnasala Temple is a small village in the Dummugudem Mandal in Telangana, the newly formed Bhadradri Kothagudem district. By road and boat, we can reach the village, which is 32 km away from the temple town of Bhadrachalam. The Bhadrachalam area has several Hindu deities connected with the Epic book Ramayana.

Parnasala Temple is a pilgrimage place At a distance of 35 km from Bhadrachalam. A small hut in Parnasala consists of painted sculptures of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshman.

The locals believe that Sita, the beloved wife of “Lord Sri Rama,” bathed in the stream here and dried her clothes on “Radhagutta,” where the marks can see even today.

The demon king “Ravana” parked his Pushpaka on the hillock opposite the river and forced her. An earthen ditch caused when Ravana removed earth to carry off Sita to Lanka can be seen here. Another Hindu legend names Parnashala where Rama killed Maricha, who came in a different appearance as a golden deer, to deceive Sita.

Parnasala village depicts the soreness of Lord Rama. And the time when Ravana kidnapped Sita. In the 14th year of Lord Rama’s voluntary absence from his own country. They believed that Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshaman stayed in this village.

There are also footprints around the town depicting the traces of Lord Rama’s stay. Also, there are footprints of the golden deer and the wheels of Ravana’s Chariot, where he kidnapped Sita.

Temple’s architecture is impressive as it is simple and looks like a wooden sculpture. Although visitors are less in number to visit this temple, it holds a significant history of Lord Rama.

It was built in the 17th century by a devotee called Kancherla Gopanna, Bhakta Ramadasu. And believed that Lord Rama visited this place and returned all the money spent by the Gopanna. Ushnagundam (hot pol), also known as Gundala, is situated about a short distance from the temple.
