History of Mangalagiri Temple:

There is a unique story behind the elephant-shaped hills. Once, a king called Pariyatra lived, and his son was named Hrasva Sungei.

To regain average bodily stature, he started visiting all the holy places. He came to Mangala Giri place and started penance for about three years during his journey.

Meanwhile, his father came to take his son back to his kingdom. But to stay here as the adobe to Lord Vishnu, he refused to go back and converted into the form of an elephant.

Devotees also believe that he listened to Devas, saying that those who performed penance there would attain moksha.
