History of Kulpakji Jain Mandir

Kulpakji Mandir is a 2000 years old Jain Mandir. During the Sanfkaragana (9th Century) rile, a grant mentioned a gift to basadi found at Akunur. During the period of Rashtrakutas, Kolanupaka flourished as a Jain centre. In Kulpak, over 20 Jain inscriptions were found, suggesting that the Kulpak is the primary centre of Kranur Gana of Mula Sangh.

It is believed that Mandodari immersed the Jinneshwar Statue and worshipped during Ravana’s kidnapped Devi Sita. After many years, Shankar, a King of Karnataka, found the same idol and returned it from the sea.

On his way home, he halted at Kolanupaka when he was about to start to his destination, and he could not move from there. Then, the king decided to build a glorious temple for the idol at Kolanupaka. Likewise, the Kolanupaka temple came into existence.
