Kaviyoor Temple History:

According to history, on his return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, Lord Sri Rama placed the primary Idol of Lord Shiva in the presence of Sita, Hanuman, Sugreeva, and Vibheeshana. Lord Sri Rama tasked Hanuman to deliver a precious Sivalimga from the Himalayas.

Hanuman went to the Himalayas to look for a one-of-a-kind Sivalinga and spent some time doing so. As the auspicious time for Prathishta approached, Lord Rama chose to perform it right away, and he fashioned a Sivalinga out of the earth from that location and dedicated it. When Hanuman returned, he was disappointed to see that the Prathishta had been completed already.

As a result, Lord Rama instructed Hanuman to remove the Prathishta and replace it with the Divyalinga he had brought. Hanuman put out his best effort, but the newly moulded earthen Linga remained unchanged. Instead, the earth around it rose, forming a slight mound.

So Hanuman prayed for forgiveness and asked Lord Rama for permission to live near the Divya Prathishta, which he had completed for the rest of his life. As a result, Kaviyoor became Hanuman’s home. Hence, this Temple became the most prominent Hanuman temple in Kerala.
