Jakhu Temple Shimla Overview:

With the most beautiful background, this temple is located on the Shivalik hill ranges on the Jakhu hills in Shimla. As it is on the city’s highest peak, you can view the sister town, Sanjauli.

History:

People visit Jakhu Temple for its spectacular view and religious culture. This place has a great mythological history for this place. It says that during a battle between lord Rama and Ravana in Ramayana, Rama’s brother got attacked and left unconscious.

Worried, Rama asks a priest about the medicine. He told Rama about the Sanjeevani herb and that it could only cure him. After listening to this, Lord Hanuman flew to bring the herb.

Even after his long search, he couldn’t find the herb. Then he landed on a hill where Jakhu temple is situated presently where a sage named Yaaku was meditating. The hill couldn’t bear the weight and flattened in half.

After that, the sage told him the directions about the herb. When he got the directions, he flew, promising to meet the sage on his way back. He found the herb but is already near sunset. So he took the fastest way possible to give the medicine.

Lord Hanuman couldn’t visit the sage on his way. The sage was disappointed and wanted to confront Lord hanuman about breaking the promise. On his way, he found an idol of Hanuman itself.

Then he decided to build the temple for Lord Hanuman to respect his visit. This place became religiously famous among Hindus. Jakhu temple is named after the sage Yaaku.

  • The temple is located on a hill, so be careful while climbing the hill. If you want to trek, walk slowly, as the path is sturdy. Take a taxi if you can’t walk.
