Dakshinamoorthy temple timings

It is a Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu. This Temple locates in Kanchipuram taluka, Kanchipuram district in Tamil Nadu. Govindavadi Temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Dakshinamoorthy.

History

While fighting to save his devotee, the discussion of Vishnu slipped, and Maharshi fell on Tatisi and lost its sharpness. God is discussing with Devas how to get the discussion back to its full potential, and he decides to repair the weapon. He returned with the blessings of Lord Shiva. For Sivaradhana, initiation by a learned guru was required.

Lord Vishnu and his wives, Sridevi and Bhudevi, bathed in a sacred spring and started penance. Shiva appeared before Lord Vishnu, preached the mantras of Lord Shiva and proceeded to worship.

Lord Shiva told his disciple to worship him with 1000 flowers in the form of his linga at a place called Tirumalapur and promised that the discussion would fully return to him in due course. After Sivaradhana, Vishnu regained his discus. Since Lord Shiva appeared as a guru before Vishnu, he is worshipped here as Dakshinamoorthy.

Sri Dakshinamoorthy Temple Highlights

Unlike other temples in Dakshina Prahram, Dakshinamoorthy Swamy has a special temple. Dakshinamoorthy was anointed in this temple. Lord Shiva, like Kailasanathar, was also housed in a special sanctum under the same plane (tower), which is the speciality of this temple. Dakshinamoorthy here believes in being worshipped by Vishnu as his Guru.

Usually, Kavadi belongs to Lord Murugan. But here, Dakshinamoorthy is worshipped as Vibhuti Kavadi. Holy ashes (Vibhuti) are anointed and offered as offerings to the Guru. Perumal had been made with sandalwood and saffron instead of Nanam Triman for God. Vyakar holds the Audayar (base of the Shivalingam) and is also known as Avudai Vinayakar.

Temple Layout

The oldest and most famous temple, the Govindavadi Guru Temple, is on the east side. The main hall is also in the same direction. The main deity is a huge Shiva lingam called Kailasanathar. Akilandeswari Devi is housed in a special shrine facing south in the Maha Mandapam.

In the Maha Mandapam, there is another deity and a Shivalingam. The Nandi idol, the flagpole, and the altar face the main hall diagonally opposite the shrine. There is a sub-shrine of Govindaraja with his wives, Sri Devi and Bhudevi.

The wall around the main temple houses the idols of Ganesha, Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga. Among them, the Dakshinamoorthy statue is prominent.

Govindavadi Guru

A large shrine had been built around this statue as the idol was considered unique to the temple. A special entrance was built to face the shrine. Devotees wait in long queues for Dakshinamoorthy’s darshan, but no one visits the temple’s main deity.

Dakshinamoorthy sat on a pedestal organized by a deity representing a turtle, eight elephants, five serpents, a lion and eight directions.

Instead of the usual banyan tree, a porch representing Mount Kailash appears. Even the ordinary Mulakan, who was at the feet of the Lord, was missing.

The small temple has a single wall, which houses the sub-halls of Ganesha, Murugan-Valli-Devasena, Adi Shankara, and Shanmukha (Skandu with six faces) and his two wives, Bhairava, Naga, Chandikeswara and Navagraha.
