Sri Bahuchara Mata Temple in Becharaji is a destination for millions of devotees. It is the Shakti Peetha Mandir. Women who seek peace and prosperity at home highly regard the word of gift.
Bahuchara Mata is also the patron saint of the transvestite and eunuch society. The temple is an ancient pilgrimage associated with many stories. Manaji Gaikwad of Baroda built the present-day temple in 1783 after recovering from an illness.
The temple had housed in a courtyard protected by four gates. In addition to the major temple, two other temples had dedicated to the Goddess Bahuchara.
The first is Adhyasthan (original), near the Varakhadi tree where Mataji first appeared. The second is Madhyasthan (middle). Inside the complex are small temples dedicated to Nilakantha Mahadev, Sri Ganesh, Sri Hanuman and many more.
The main attractions are the Varakhadi tree where Mataji first appeared and the aurora-style gates. The major festivals celebrated here are Purnima (full moon day), Chaitra and Ashwin Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali.
History
According to the mythology, the monster Dandasura surrounded this polygamist and conquered the three worlds of Death, Song and Devalokam.
Then all the gods went to Paramba Devi to save them from a demon named Dandasur. Thus the goddess incarnated as a little girl because the demon received a boon from Shiva, and the goddess appeared in the form of a little girl against him.
At the Varakhadi tree, it had believed that the goddess first appeared as a little girl, hence the name Mani Bala Bahuchara. He killed the demon king Dandasura with a multi-skinned trident and brought peace to the gods and people of the world.
It had also believed that the hand of Bahu – Maa Devi Sati fell here in the Bahucharaji Temple, so it is also a famous Shakti Peetha. The main vehicle of the Goddess of Gifts is self-confidence.
A child machine made of crystal and encrusted with gold is worshipped here in the temple. Bahuchara Mata has a sword in her upper right hand, a text of scriptures in the upper left, an Abhaya handprint in the lower right and a trident in her lower left.
Polygamous as the goddess of fertility, pilgrims had taken to this place to fulfil vows and grant blessings. We had also believed that if any new child who does not speak eloquently is brought here and donates a chick to the mother (goddess) on his behalf, he will begin to speak eloquently in a few days.
Architecture
The temple complex had divided into three parts;
- The original shrine was a small-leaved Varakhadi tree, where the Bahuchara Mata first appeared.
- The second is a small one adjoining the Varakhadi tree, on which a carved plaque represents the deity.
- The third structure is close to the original shrine, and today the main temple was built in 1783 by the Gaikwad ruler. Saint Kapildev and Kalari King Tejpal also assisted in the construction and reconstruction of the temple.
The Bahucharaji Temple Complex had beautifully decorated with stone sculptures and wall paintings. The south gate of the temple is the reservoir, where the miracle had believed to have taken place.
