Thiruthani Murugan Temple is the Lord Murugan Temple on the hill, with 365 steps representing 365 days. The hill’s height is 700 feet, and it is believed to have been built by the Pallavas between the 9th century and the 10th century C.E. 

Beautiful, lush green trees surround this Temple with a pathway to the top. It is one of the six holy abodes of Lord Karthikeya. 1917, Sri Vallimalai Swamigal began the Padi Pooja, which was specially performed for Lord Murugan. On the occasion of the new year, the temple organizers clean every step and light the Diyas on every step.

History of The Temple:

Thiruthani Murugan Temple has a great mythological history, where Lord Kargthikeya married Valli after the war with Surapadman. Then, Goddess Valli asked the lord to enlighten her with the significance of the hill. He said he resides in this place, and the devotees can get peace and bliss after worshipping for five consecutive days.

Later, as per the advice, Lord Rama visited the Temple after the war with Ravana to get peace of mind. In Dwapara Yuga, Arjuna visited this Temple after the Kurukshetra war with Kouravas. Another belief is that Lord Vishnu got his Chakra back after praying to the lord when Tarakasura took the Chakra.
