Dattatreya temple has a legend saying that one day, sage Arti performed a penance where his power got so strong that the flames grew stronger. Then, lord Bramha, Vishnu and Shiva appeared before him and asked what he wanted.

Sage Arti asked for a son who has all the characteristics and powers of all the gods. They fulfilled his wish and told him that his children would be born in the second yuga of the Vaivaswath Manvaatar. As a result, Anasuya gave birth to Datta, who has the face of three Lords. Later, he disappeared into the woods and again reincarnated as Lord Narasimha Swamy in this temple.
