It is also a traditional Vaishnava shrine and a historical temple. There are two temples in the same place. Swayambhu, one of the temple idols and another temple idol, was erected. Rajahmundry is 20 km, and Kakinada is 60 km from the Temple.
History
The Temple was built sometime in the fifteenth or seventeenth centuries. There is also a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was before the construction of the Narasimha Swamy Temple. Lord Rama built the idol of Lord Shiva in the sanctuary.
The sanctuary’s development in the eighteenth century was in the hands of the kings of Peddapuram. The former chairman of the Temple made several donations to it. Later, a world-renowned businessman also contributed to the shrine. Which later built the present Korokonda Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple.
Significance
The name of this shrine was derived from the Telugu words ‘Koru’, meaning desire, and ‘Konda’, meaning Mountain. So, it can be called a desirable mountain or a shrine where God hears the requests of His followers immediately and fulfils their desires.
The most important idol here is Narasimha Swamy. He is known by the word ‘Satvika Narasimha’ as he is always with his wife Lakshmidevi in this shrine.
In this village, there are two shrines dedicated to Lord Narasimha. The first can be found on a mountain a few kilometres from the primary village. In contrast, the other shrine can be found where there is a smaller mountain than the other hills. One shrine is self-contained; the other was manually built or constructed.
The self-evident statue is located on a mountain about one hundred and twenty meters high. The Temple of idols found on the Mountain is about nine inches high.
Architecture
There are two temples, one of which is Swayambhu and the other of the prestige deity. Swayambhu is about 120 meters away. The height is very steep, with about 615 steps. The village was named “Korokonda” due to the agile structure of the hill. The self-contained goddess appears in a sacred place measuring about 9 inches at the top of the hill.
Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Korukonda, is truly amazing and has never been erected by a human deity or any other stone at 120 meters. Height, there is a lot of sculptural beauty around the Temple, which was built long ago. Numerous stone inscriptions were found in the Temple and on the top hill of the Temple.
The Temple was built about 700-800 years ago. The Parashara Bhattar family members look after the temple affairs and continue the same tradition by recognizing the family members as the founding trustees. It is the most beautiful looking place with site viewing through the hill and stairs.
The great poet Sri Srinath prayed to the Lord for this desired “Vedadri” in his poetry. Sila supports it – Sasanam found at W.G.Dt, Laxmaneswaram village, Narsapur taluka. It dates to 1443 A.D.
The government has recently proposed undertaking development works around this Temple, which recognize as a tourist destination.
