Hedvi Ganapati Mandir is a Hindu Temple with Lord Ganesh as the main deity in Hedvi Village in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra—7 km from Velneshwar Temple. The Hedvi Ganapati temple timings are from 5 AM to 7 PM.

Hedvi Ganapati Temple is known as ‘Shri Dashabhuja Lakshmi Ganesh Temple’. Dashabhuja means Lord Ganesh has ten arms. It is an ancient temple that God found on the top of the mountain, carved with white marble stone. Kashmir found these types of stones in the Kashmir region.

Hedvi Ganapati idol is very charming. It is 3 feet in height, and it has ten hands. Their local people Celebrate the significant ceremony of the Birth of  Lord Ganesh. They are mainly celebrated in Shukla Chaturthi and Shashthi in Magh. In Dashabhuja Ganesh Temple, we can see Nagraj around the idol’s neck and Goddess Lakshmi Devi Sitting on his left lap.

History of Hedvi Ganapati Temple

Hedvi Ganapati Mandir has various myths and history. During the 15th century, ruing of moguls, there used to be a Flower tree named ‘Kevada’ Forest, where the “Swayambhoo” Ganesha is situated. Where Balbhatji Bhide lived, and he is Brahmin.

Once he faced a big personal disaster, he gave up food and water until he was relieved of his problem. So he stayed in the forest alone for penance and worshipped his patron saint, “Mangalamurti” Ganesha.

During this time, Bhide had a vision in his dream in which Ganesha said that he had come to Agargule (Ganesh Gule) in his “nirakar” form to alleviate the suffering of all my devotees. Therefore, you should worship and atone here.

One of Bhide’s cows was not milking at the same period, so the cowherd kept an eye on her. He was amazed to see milk dripping from a cow udder at the place where the idol of God is now.

The cowherd described the incident to Bhide, who found a statue of Ganesh, which he had seen in his eyes while Bhide was cleaning the whole area. So, he built a shrine on top of the grass and began performing his first rituals.

Later, Secretary Annaji Dutta, one of Shivaji Maharaj’s eight trusted ministers, built a magnificent dome instead of a grassy top. The following structure was the auditorium built by the Sardar Govindrap Bundle from the Peshwa Court.

After that, Kolhapur Sansthan Secretary Vasudeva Rao Barve made a gilded gopuram peak. His Highness Nanasaheb Peshwa set up the continuous lamp lighting “Nandadeep”, and Ramabai Peshwa created a permanent stone structure for the pilgrims. Madhava Rao Peshwa built the “Sabhamandapan”.
