Harihareshwar temple location is a town in the Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. According to history, the Temple is surrounded by three hills: Harihareshwar, Harshinachal and Pushpadri. Harihareshwar temple timings are from 4 AM to 10 PM.

The Savitri River flows into the Arabian Sea from the town. To the north of the town is the Temple of Harihareshwar, blessed by Lord Shiva. Hence, this Temple is often called Dev-Ghar or “House of God“. It is also known as Dakshin Kashi.

It is believed that the Temple was built in the late medieval period, and the main deity of the Temple is the ‘Kuladaivat’ of the Peshwas, the chief ministers of the great Maratha Empire.

History of the Temple

According to the history of the Harihareshwar temple, Chandra Rao More built the ’roundabout’ around the Temple. In 1674, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj also visited the Temple.

Later, the Temple was wholly restored in 1723 after being almost destroyed by Bajirao Peshwa’s fire.

Inside the vital sanctum sanctorum of the Temple are linga-shaped idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma.

Close to the Temple are two other temples – Lord Kalabhairava and Goddess Yogeshwari- which are also must-visit.

Tourists can also visit Himmatgarh Fort, which can be reached by ferry ride. With two natural and undamaged beaches – one to the north and the other to the south of the Temple, the Beach Resort also has a tag.

Road: Harihareshwar is about 170 km from Pune. It takes about 4-5 hours to reach the Tamhini Ghats. Especially during the rainy season and after, the route is lovely. To reach Harihareshwar from Mumbai, take NH17 to Mangao.
