Yamunotri Temple

Yamunotri Temple is in the left bank of the river Yamuna belongs to the goddess of Yamuna. The temple is at Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state.

It is one of the places to visit during Chota Char Dham Yatra and also in Yamunotri Dham. The deity of this temple is in the form 0f black marble.

About Yamunotri Temple History:

While in the ancient consideration of Yamunotri temple history, there is a story behind the birth of the Goddess Yamuna in the form of Yamunotri.

However, there lived a well-known sage named Asit Muni used a take bath daily from Ganga and Yamuna. But unable to reach Gangotri during his old age.

So, to continue his ritual Ganga allowed a stream for him which is now calling Yamunotri.

Goddess Yamuna is the daughter of the Sun god and his wife Sangya. The god of Death Yamadarma Raj is the brother of Yamuna(Yami).

As the Goddess Yamuna is the sister of the death God Yama, it is believing that who bathed in the river of Yamuna will going to reduce painful death.

However, the birthplace of the Yamuna is at Sangya of Champasar Glacier which is present below of the mountain Bandarpoonch. Whereas the mountain Kalind Parvath which is adjacent to the river is dedicated to her father Sun God as Kalinda is another name of Sun god.

To illustrate the construction of a temple, as this temple is located in the earthquake-prone area the temple was built so many. But according to the records the temple was first built by the Tehri Naresh Sudarshan Shah in 1839.

Again reconstructed by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur during 19 century. So, there is confusion about who constructed this temple.

But according to the temple sources it was constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal.

Yamunotri Temple Timings:

As the temple is located in the lower Himalayan region, it will cover by the heavy snow during the winter season.

And also the temple opening and closing dates depend on the auspicious days of Hindu calendar. However, the opening is on the day of Akshaya Tritiya and the closing date is on the second day of Diwali Yama Dwitiya.

Whereas the daily Yamunotri Temple Timings are from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

In addition, the Aarti timings are from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
