History:

During Samudra Manthan by Devas and Asuras. As a result, that process gave rise to Amrita, Halahala and many treasures.

So, in order to prevent peoples from Halahala Lord Shiva drunk it. But, Lord Shiva wife stopped it in his neck by holding it tight just before to the throat and it turned blue.

Afterwards, he proceeds to travel Kailash but on his way, he felt very uncomfortable.

There, he lied down to relax, keeping his head on the lap of Parvati in the place of Surutapalli. Some of his well-wishers were surrounded him. Awaiting the god to open his eyes.

In Conclusion, this type of laying on lap posture is rare as it is similar to Lord Vishnu posture. They were been happy only after knowing Lord Shiva is fine.

The place this event took place is now calling Surutapalli Temple Pallikondeswara
