Sri Sakshi Bhavanarayana Temple Ponnur
Sri Sakshi Bhavanarayana Temple Ponnur: The main deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu and is located in Ponnur town of Guntur district. This is one of the oldest temples in Guntur district and equals to 108 Tirupathi temples.
History of Sri Sakshi Bhavanarayana Temple Ponnur:
As per the legends, a man by name kesavaiah is a Brahmin and is childless he used to visit holy temples with his brother-in-law Govindudu. One day in Kashi kesavaiah promised that he will give his daughter to Govindudu for marriage at the premises of Lord Narayana. So, from the blessings of Kasi Narayana, he was blessed with a baby girl and named her Akkalakshmi.when she attains for marriage Govindudu express his interest in marring AkkaLakshmi in front of kesavaiah. Consequently, kesavaiah rejects his proposal and asks him for the witness.
Finally, Govindudu went to Kasi and prayed for Lord Narayana to be as a witness. However, Lord Narayana was impressed and manifested himself in Ponnur and act as a witness for kesavaiah’s promise. Because of this reason, the name of this temple is Sakshi Bhavanarayana Swamy. In fact, Lord Shiva came along with Narayana Swamy as a witness and manifested. Usually, people believe that Lord Brahma used to take bath at Brahma pushkarani means temple tank while performing penance at Ghostivanam
During the period of 11th century AD king Nalaparaju built this temple. Later King Kulothunga renovated this temple during Chola’s dynasty.

Generally, the temple opens at morning 6:00 am and closes at evening 8:00 pm

By Flight: The nearest airport is in Vijayawada which is 79 km far away.
On Rail: Guntur Jn railway station is the major railway station which is at a distance of 32 km. However, Nidubrolu and Machavaram railway stations are near to ponnur.
By Bus: Ponnur and cherukupalli bus stations are near to Ponnur. so, from there you can reach by road thereafter. However, APSRTC runs a major number of buses from all major cities.
