Sri Moolasthana Yellamma Temple Chandragiri is in Chandragiri of Chittoor district.

The deity of this temple is Goddess Parvathi in the form of Moolasthana Yellamma.

History:

The legend behind Sri Moolasthana Yellamma Temple Chandragiri was Once the father of Goddess Parvathi named Daksha Prajapathi conducted a yagna.

Though Daksha Prajapathi did not invite his son-in-law Lord Shiva for the occasion, Parvathi wants to go for the occasion with Lord Shiva’s permission.

Lord Shiva advised her to not attend because of the bad relationship between him and Daksha Prajapati.

Even though the permission was not granted to Goddess Parvathi, she attended the occasion. Daksha Prajapathi abused Lord Shiva with the arrival of Goddess Parvathi.

Then she generated Yogagni of fire and sacrifice herself. Lord Shiva got angry and gathered her body from Yogagni.

As a result, nine parts of her body fell on the different places of the earth. One of the parts was fell at the neem tree of Chandragiri and named Moolasthana Yellamma.

Meanwhile, this place was once attacked by Cholera.

Many of the villagers died because of this disease. Villagers met Agasthya sage while he was performing a penance nearby hill.

Then Sage found that neem tree and installed a deity. After that villagers requested sage to get relieved from those diseases.

Sage offered another statue of the same deity to the villagers and advised to offer prayers to the deity.

The villagers identified the same idol at neem tree and placed the 2 statues at the neem tree where the present Sri Moolasthana Yellamma Temple Chandragiri is. And started offering prayers to the deity.

Finally, villagers got rid of all those diseases.

  • Generally, the temple opens at 5:30 AM and closes by 9:00 PM.

By Flight:

  • Tirupathi Airport is the nearest to Chandragiri. It is 27 km away from the Moolasthana Yellamma temple.

On Rail:

  • The place itself has the Railway Station. It takes 2 km to reach the Sri Moolasthana Yellamma Temple Chandragiri from Chandragiri Railway Station.

By Bus:

  • Tirupathi is the nearest city to the place. The frequency of buses and local transport are good.
