History:

During the Samudra madana, the emergence of poison took place. In order to save the world, Lord Shiva drank the whole poison.

To save him Goddess Parvathi stopped the poison by holding that in his throat.

For this reason, Lord Shiva’s throat is in blue in colour and calling as Nanjangud which literally mean The person who drank poison.

Chola kings of 11th – 12th century laid down the foundation for Nanjagud temple. Go through the following  Sri Nanjandeshwara temple timings. It is located in Mysore district of Karnataka state.
