Mukthi Rameswara Swamy Temple Proddutor
Mukthi Rameswara Swamy Temple Proddutor is on the bank of the river Penna at Proddutor, Kadapa District. The presiding deity of this temple is Sri Mukti Rama Lingeswara Swamy.
After killing Ravana, Rama returns to Ayodhya. On his way, he used to perform prayers to Lord Shiva because of killing Ravana a Brahmin which lead to Brahmana Dosha. But Rama unable to offer prayers because there is no Shiva lingam in that place. So, Rama ordered Lord Hanuman to get the Shiva Lingam From Kasi. But Hanuman who left to Kasi did not return in time. Then Lord Rama decided to install an idol of Shiva linga which he made with sand. And started offering prayers and abhishekam for the idol. The name of this idol is Saikatha Lingam. On returning from Kasi lord hanuman felt bad for the sand idol. So, on Lord Hanuman wish Lord Rama also placed the idol from Kasi opposite to the sand idol. On that point, this place is also called Hanuma Kshetram other than Rama Lingeswara Swamy Temple.
As Lord Rama wants to attain liberation(Mukti) from the Ravan’s death and in the place of Rameswara Swamy Temple and Lord Rama placed the idol before sunrise which means Proddu. Altogether, the name of the Mukthi Rameswara Swamy Temple Proddutor.
According to history, the temple was built by Sri Krishna Devararaya in the 16th century.
