Markendaya Swamy Temple Markondapadu: is located in Markundapadu Village of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva in the form of Markandeswara Swamy along with his consort Goddess Parvathi devi. It is also called as Sri Uma Markandeswara Swamy temple.

History of Markandaya Swamy Temple Markondapadu:

As per the legends, a saint by name Mrukahanada is a great devotee of Lord Shiva. The saint is childless he thought to get a blessing from Lord Shiva by performing penance to the Lord. Lord impress by his penance and gave blessing with a choice if he wants a baby she should live without her husband throughout her life or a boy with 11 years spiritual devotion. The sage chooses a boy and the Lord gave the boon according to his wish. When the kid was conceived he was named as Markendaya. the boy was with a great knowledge and dedicates his life to penance by installing the idol of Lord Shiva where the temple is now. At the age of 11 years, Yama came to take the life of the boy but at that time Lord Shiva came and save his life and blessed him with having no death. The boy completely dedicated his life and reached Parvathi and Shiva.

The Lord here is to install by Markandaya hence the name of this temple is Sri Markandaya temple.

Generally the timings of this temple morning 7:00 am to evening 8:00 pm.

How to reach this temple:

By Air: The nearest airport is in Rajahmundry which is at a distance of 25 km.

On Rail: Brahmanagudem and Nidadavollu railway stations are nearby railway stations to this temple. So, from there you can reach there by road thereafter. However, Rajahmundry railway station is near to Markundapadu village which is at a distance of 11 km.

By Bus: Nidadavolu and Kovvur bus stations are nearby bus stations to Markundapadu. So, from there you can reach this temple by local transport. However, APSRTC runs a number of buses from all major cities to here.
