Macherla Chennakesava Swamy Temple located in Macherla town in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

Here the main deity is Lord Vishnu in the form of Chennakesava Swamy along with his wife Goddess Lakshmidevi.

As per the legends, this temple was built in 1113 AD as a Shiviate temple.

During Brahma Naidu ruling it converted into Vaishvanite temple. At that time many Hindus converted into Buddhism due to the opposition of worshipping between Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

Meanwhile, at that time Adi Shankaracharya speeches about the Advaitha philosophy which says God is one and God is none but You.

Finally, after his speeches, those who converted into Buddhism returns back to Hinduism because of his speeches.

The main temple Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Swamy built during the 13th-century AD.

However, the Main gate of the Macherla Chennakesava Swamy Temple has one tall dwajasthambam with the statue of Lord covered with bronze and wood.

Besides this there are 4 other stone figures closes by Sriman Narayana Avataram, Srimadhbhagavatham, Sriman Mahabharatham and Sriman Ramayanam.

However, Chenna Kesava Swamy Tirumala or Utsavam celebrates every year in the month of March or April celebrates very grandly.

By Air:

  • Macherla railway station is the nearest railway station.  Guntur Jn is the main Railway station it is at a distance of 121 can reach Macherla from Guntur by road thereafter.

By Bus:

  • However, Macherla Bus station, Rentichintala Bus station and Nagarjunasagar Bus stations are the nearest bus station to macherla. Generally, APSRTC runs frequent buses from there.
