The Dutch raided Guruvayur in 1716. They looted treasures and burned down the Western Gopuram (later rebuilt in 1747). The Dutch destroyed the Trikkunavay temple in 1755, and the Brahmins fled. Hyder Ali of Mysore captured Kozhikkode (Calicut) and Guruvayur in 1766.
