Famous Basara Temple History:

When it comes to the legend behind the temple, After the ferocious Kurukshetra War, Sage Vedavyasya came to the Dandaka forest on the coast of Godavari river along with his son Shakuni to live a peaceful life. He was pleased with the beauty of the place and decided to have a shelter there.

Meanwhile, Vedavyasya was dreamt to build a temple for 3 by Goddess Jaganmata. After that, he brought a 3 hand full of sand dunes and made 3 goddess deities with the sand. Since then the 3 deities were coated with turmeric and being worshipped. There is a belief that who eats the piece of turmeric which coated to deities will gain more knowledge and intelligence.

The place was once called Vasara because of Vyasya Sage and with the influence of some Maharastra people this temple was changed to Basara.
